Please make sure you read the rules, especially regarding ship eligibility and further information about nominations that is not covered in this post.

An AO3 account is required to make nominations. Should you need an invitation, please reach out to the mods via email or the comments section of this post. Anon comments are on, but they are not screened.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: To qualify for this exchange, the ship needs to have less than 250 works on AO3, be complete and written in English, and be filtered using the otp:true filter. If you're unsure of how to filter a work via AO3, please see this comment here on the Rules/Guidelines post explaining how to use the "otp:true filter".

Key points to keep in mind while nominating:

• You can nominate up to 10 fandoms with 10 relationships ("/" only) each. We will not be accepting solo character nominations or relationships using "&".


• All nominations must be disambiguated with the name of the canon after the ship, e.g. "Theodore "Laurie" Laurence/Amy March (Little Women — Gerwig 2019)". If they are not disambiguated, you risk your nomination being rejected.


• Please specify which version of canon you would like rather than nominating under the 'all media' version of the tag, e.g. "Dragon Age (Video Games)" vs "Dragon Age (All Media)".


• The only current exceptions to the above rule are Assassin's Creed and American Girl Dolls. Both can be nominated under their "All Media Types" tag.


• Crossover nominations: Please nominate crossovers with "Crossover Fandom" in the "Fandom" section of the nomination form, with the crossover relationships filling up the relationship textbox. i.e. "Crossover Fandom", "Natasha Romanov (MCU)/Dinah Lance (DCEU)".


• We do not allow Reader/Canon Character pairings and recursive fic to be nominated for this exchange.

Regarding specific fandoms with various umbrella fandoms:

• Arrowverse/DCTV: Please nominate under "Arrowverse (TV)". Shows the aren't specifically in the Arrowverse but are considered to exist within the DCTV universe (i.e. Smallville, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Titans, Doom Patrol, etc.) should remain with their original tag. Arrow, The Flash (2014), and Supergirl belong under "Arrowverse".


• DC Extended Universe: Please nominate under the "DCEU", i.e. "Dinah Lance/Lois Lane (DCEU)".


• MCU: Please nominate under "Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)", e.g. "Maria Hill/Sam Wilson (MCU)". Movies such as Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc. should be nominated under "MCU".
  
  Marvel TV shows (i.e. Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, WandaVision, TFATWS, Agent Carter, What If …?, Loki, etc.) are to be nominated as separate entities from MCU (i.e. WandaVision would be nominated under "WandaVision", not "MCU").


• Doctor Who/Star Wars/Star Trek/X-Men/Stargate: Please refer to the specific version that you are nominating. For X-Men, please use either "The Original Trilogy" or "ATS" (for "Alternate Timeline Series") for the live action films, and ensure that any cartoon nominations are disambiguated with their cartoon canons i.e. "X-Men '97".


• Comics: Please nominate these under their specific category. For DCU, that would be "DCU (Comics)". With Marvel, please specify the version that you are nominating (Noir, 616, etc.), i.e. "Natasha Romanov/Carol Danvers (Marvel 616)".


• Characters who are in separate subfandoms (e.g. "Jadzia Dax (Star Trek: DS9)/B'Elanna Torres (Star Trek: Voyager)") belong to the "Crossover Fandom" category.


• Original characters in non-original canons: You may nominate Canon Character/Original Character(s), e.g. "Diana (Wonder Woman)/Original Female Character"; "Jess Mariano (Gilmore Girls)/Original Characters". These belong under the canon character's fandom.
  
  You can be as specific as you would like. If you do not specify a gender within the tag, you cannot box your creator into a specific combination, so please make sure to request the dynamic you would prefer.


• Original Works: These must be nominated under "Original Work" in the following format: "Character Type/Character Type", e.g. "Princess/Maid", "Pilot/Soldier/General", etc. If they are not nominated in this way, they will be rejected.
  
  You can be as specific as you like, i.e. "Pilot (M)/Soldier (M)/General (F)". Please remember that you cannot box your creator in with a specific dynamic that isn't already indicated by the nominated tag.

Thanks for letting us know! I've checked the tag (your link wasn't working for me) and note that you're nominating them from the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. (Even if it happens to go over 250 while we approve, we'll still accept it since you've let us know it was nominated when it still met our 250 works or fewer criteria.)

Hi, I've nominated two Star Trek ships that are a bit edge cases as of time of nominating:

Seven of Nine/B'Elanna Torres (Star Trek: Voyager) has 203 works with the otp:true filter (vs 299 without filters)

Beverly Crusher/Deanna Troi (Star Trek: The Next Generation) has 193 works with the otp:true filter (vs 287 without filters)

They fit the criteria in the rules but I thought I'd let you guys know to avoid confusion!

Thanks for letting us know! We find a few nominated ships are in the same boat as yours, and we always check with the filters when we find they're over our 250 limit when filters aren't applied.

I'm curious about how the rarity requirements for OW noms are checked -- I know some people (including me) usually tag their OW with the generic canonical relationship tags like "Original Male Character/Original Male Character" instead of more specific tags like "Original Male General/Original Male Soldier", so how can we be sure that the relationship we're nominating is indeed rare? Or is the assumption that any new original work relationship is definitionally rare since the specific characters in it are new original characters, even if the relationship archetype is a common one?

Thanks for asking! We don't use rarity requirements for OW noms and you are right in thinking that any original work is considered rare because they're all new characters, regardless of how common the dynamic may be. :)

Hi! Maybe I'm missing something, but how do we specify in the nominations what version of a fandom we want to nominate a pairing in? For example, I'm trying to nominate pairings under both Modao Zushi (the novel) and The Untamed (the live adaptation). The same pairings can be very different depending on the source material, so I tried to nominate the same pairing for both fandoms but was unable to do so. What should I do? Just pick one and then specify which version I'm looking for and willing to write for in the signup phase?

Hi!

When you input the fandom into the fandom textbox, you can override what appears in the dropdown menu. For example, you can input "Modao Zushi (Novel)", and press enter—you don't have to accept AO3's dropdown fandom(s). When adding your relationships, you do the same thing: "Character A/Character B (Modao Zushi)" and press enter. That way, when it comes through in the backend, we know what version you want and can check it.

Please let us know if that doesn't make sense, and we can do some screenshots to show you how to override AO3's dropdown fandoms.

There seems to be 3 separate Baldur's Gate 3 fandoms:
- Baldur's Gate 3 (Video Game) (40)
- Baldur's Gate 3 (Video Games) (2)
- Baldur's Gate Three (8)

And some of the FFX noms seem to have drifted into FFX-2 as well - looks like they might have 2 fandoms associated with them?
- Auron/Rikku (FF X-2)
- Auron/Braska/Jecht (Final Fantasy X Series)
- Lulu/Rikku/Wakka (Final Fantasy X Series)
- Lulu/Yuna (Final Fantasy X Series)
- Rikku/Tidus (Final Fantasy X Series)
- Rikku/Tidus/Yuna (Final Fantasy X Series) - this one also seems to be showing under Dissidia as well

Might be worth querying the Auron/Rikku one, the nominator might specifically want x-2 era Rikku but Auron isn't in that game at all. It might be easier to associate them all just under "Final Fantasy X Series".

A bunch of nominations under Star Trek Discovery also seem to have two disambiguations, and one of them has none.

When we come across a similar issue in the backend, it may be because the fandom name has already been accepted. You can try providing an alternate name (like how "Marvel Cinematic Universe" is sometimes seen in tagsets as something like "Marvel Cinematic Unicorn").

Can you please link us your nominations and let us know which fandom nomination you are trying to rename and what you're trying to rename it to? We may need to do this in the backend.

Nominations that have been approved/rejected cannot be edited, but if you go to your "My Nominations" page and you still have spots remaining, you can add more until they close.
